Seminar “Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in the Western Balkan Region: HCCH 2019 Judgments Convention”

On 15 and 16 May 2023, the seminar “Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in the Western Balkan Region: HCCH 2019 Judgments Convention”, co-organised by the Center for International Legal Cooperation (CILC) and the HCCH, was held in The Hague. The seminar provided an opportunity for participants to further refine their knowledge of the 2019 Judgments Convention and to discuss the importance and prospects of the Convention in the region. It was attended by 30 participants from six jurisdictions in the Western Balkans, representing Ministries of Justice, Ministries of Foreign Affairs, and National Champions. Representatives of the European Commission and of the Ministry of Justice of the Netherlands were also present.

The seminar forms part of the Balkan Enforcement Strengthening Project, an initiative led by CILC with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. It builds upon the Regional Forum “HCCH 2019 Judgments Convention: Prospects for the Western Balkans”, which took place in Skopje, North Macedonia in July 2022.

More information on the 2019 Judgments Convention is available on the Judgments Section of the HCCH website.
