The Permanent Bureau (PB) of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) is seeking a:
TEMPORARY LEGAL ASSISTANT (six months; full-time)
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- A law degree (Bachelor/Licentiate or equivalent);
- Good knowledge of private international law as well as familiarity with comparative law;
- Excellent command, preferably as native language and both spoken and written, of English; good command of French (B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and knowledge of other languages desirable; and
- Sensitivity to different legal cultures.
He or she should work well in a team, be able to work in more than one area of law, and respond well to time-critical requests. At least one-year of legal or academic work experience would be an advantage.
Duties will include general assistance in the areas of international family law and child protection, including responding to daily requests, comparative law research, preparation of research papers and other documentation, organisation and preparation of materials for publication, assistance in the preparation of and participation in conferences, seminars and training programmes, and such other work as may be required by the Secretary General from time to time.
Type of appointment and duration: short-term contract of six months.
Starting date: as soon as possible
Grade: B3/1 subject to relevant experience.
