India accepts HCCH Statute

On Thursday, 13 March 2008, India deposited its instrument of acceptance of the Statute of the Hague Conference, and thus became the 69th Member of the Organisation.

India - a federal State consisting of 28 states and 7 union states, and with a population of 1.14 billion inhabitants - is already a Party to the following Hague Conventions: 

  • Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents
  • Convention of 15 November 1965 on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents in Civil or Commercial Matters
  • Convention of 18 March 1970 on the Taking of Evidence Abroad in Civil or Commercial Matters
  • Convention of 29 May 1993 on Protection of Children and Co-operation in respect of Intercountry Adoption
