Ukraine ratifies the Hague Convention of 23 November 2007 on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance

On Wednesday 24 July 2013, Ukraine ratified the Hague Convention of 23 November 2007 on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance (hereinafter the 2007 Hague Child Support Convention). Ukraine is the fourth Contracting State to join the 2007 Hague Child Support Convention, which came into force on 1 January 2013.

In relations between Contracting States, the 2007 Hague Child Support Convention replaces the United Nations Convention on the Recovery Abroad of Maintenance of 20 June 1956 to which Ukraine is also a Contracting State.

Philippe Lortie, First Secretary at the Hague Conference on Private International Law, marked the occasion by stating that "by becoming a Contracting State to the 2007 Hague Child Support Convention Ukraine is showing leadership by inviting other Contracting States to the United Nations Convention in the region, such as Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the Republic of Moldova to become Contracting States to the 2007 Hague Child Support Convention".
