Guyana accedes to the Apostille Convention – 152nd State connected to the HCCH
On 16 August 2018, the Permanent Bureau was informed that the Co-operative Republic of Guyana had deposited its instrument of accession to the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (Apostille Convention) on the 19 July 2018.
With the accession of Guyana, the Apostille Convention now has 116 Contracting Parties; it will enter into force for Guyana on 18 April 2019.
Guyana is not a Member of the HCCH yet, and the Apostille Convention is the first Hague Convention that Guyana has joined. Guyana has thus become the 152nd State to be connected to the HCCH. This shows that the Organisation continues to make good progress on its path towards universality, a central tenet of its operational strategy.
