Following Guyana’s accessions, Child Abduction and Child Protection Conventions have 100 and 50 Contracting Parties respectively
On 5 February 2019, Guyana deposited its instrument of accession to the HCCH Convention of 25 October 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (“Child Abduction Convention”), making it the 100th Contracting Party to the Convention. The Child Abduction Convention will enter into force for Guyana on 1 May 2019. This is a significant development and milestone as the Child Abduction Convention is the second HCCH Convention to reach the mark of 100 Contracting Parties (after the Apostille Convention, to which Guyana acceded in 2018).
On the same day, Guyana also deposited its instrument of accession to the HCCH Convention of 19 October 1996 on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in Respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children (“Child Protection Convention”), making it the 50th Contracting Party to the Convention. The Child Protection Convention will enter into force for Guyana on 1 December 2019.
Guyana is not yet a Member of the HCCH.
