Monaco accedes to the 2005 Choice of Court Convention
On 27 November 2025, the Principality of Monaco deposited its instrument of accession to the Convention of 30 June 2005 on Choice of Court Agreements (2005 Choice of Court Convention).
At the ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, depositary of the HCCH Conventions, Monaco was represented by H.E. Mr Frédéric Labarrère, Ambassador to the Netherlands, and Mr Johannes De Millo Terrazzani, Counsellor at the Embassy of Monaco. The depositary was represented by Mr Jules van Eijndhoven, Head of the Treaties Division, Mr Rieks Boekholt, Senior Legal Officer at the Treaties Division, and Ms Ouiam Aridal, Intern at the Europe Department, while the Permanent Bureau of the HCCH was represented by Ms Melissa Ford, Secretary (Diplomat Lawyer) and Head of the Transnational Litigation and Apostille Division, and Dr Ning Zhao, Principal Legal Officer.
With the accession of Monaco, 38 States and the European Union are bound by the 2005 Choice of Court Convention. The Convention will enter into force for Monaco on 1 March 2026. More information on this Convention is available on the Choice of Court Section of the HCCH website.
Monaco has been a Member of the HCCH since 1996 and is now a Contracting Party to nine HCCH Conventions.
