Denmark signs and approves the 2007 Child Support Convention

Yesterday, 30 June 2025, H.E. Mr Ulf Melgaard, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, signed, on behalf of Denmark, the Convention of 23 November 2007 on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance (2007 Child Support Convention). Denmark also deposited its instrument of approval of the Convention.

At the ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, depositary of the HCCH Conventions, H.E. Mr Ulf Melgaard was accompanied by Mr Victor Backer-Gonzalez, Senior Multilateral Advisor at the Embassy of Denmark. The depositary was represented by Mr Rieks Boekholt, acting Head of the Treaties Division, Mr Stephan Hessels, Legal Officer at the Treaties Division, and Mr Roeland Smit, Desk Officer for Denmark at the Europe Department, while the Permanent Bureau of the HCCH was represented by Dr Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary General, and Mr Jean-Marc Pellet, iSupport Coordinator.

With the approval of Denmark, 55 States and the European Union are bound by the 2007 Child Support Convention. It will enter into force for Denmark on 1 October 2025. More information on this Convention is available on the Child Support Section of the HCCH website.

Denmark has been a Member of the HCCH since 1955 and is now a Contracting Party to 14 HCCH Conventions.
