By a Note dated 10 August 1978 the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga declared that it considers itself bound by the Convention, which had been extended to its territory by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland before the accession of Tonga to independence, as from 4 June 1970, the date on which Tonga acceded to independence, maintaining the reservation made at the time of the extension and under the reservation mentioned in Article 10 of the Convention.
