Georgia ratifies the 2007 Child Support Convention and the 2007 Maintenance Obligations Protocol
On 14 May 2024, Georgia deposited its instruments of ratification of the Convention of 23 November 2007 on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance (2007 Child Support Convention) and of the Protocol of 23 November 2007 on the Law Applicable to Maintenance Obligations (2007 Maintenance Obligations Protocol).
The ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, depositary of the HCCH Conventions. Georgia was represented by H. E. Mr David Solomonia, Ambassador to the Netherlands, and Mr Huta Salia, First Secretary at the Embassy of Georgia, while the depositary was represented by Mr Rieks Boekholt, Acting Head of the Treaties Division, and Mr Stephan Hessels, Legal Officer at the Treaties Division. Ms Laura Martínez-Mora, Diplomat Lawyer, Mr Jean-Marc Pellet, iSupport Coordinator, and Ms Nietta Keane, Assistant Legal Officer, attended the ceremony on behalf of the Permanent Bureau of the HCCH.
With the ratification of Georgia, 51 States and the European Union are bound by the 2007 Child Support Convention, while 32 States and the European Union are bound by the 2007 Maintenance Obligations Protocol. Both the Convention and the Protocol will enter into force for Georgia on 1 September 2024. More information on these instruments is available on the Child Support Section of the HCCH website.
Georgia has been a Member of the HCCH since 2001 and is now a Contracting Party to eight HCCH instruments.
