On 19 October 2021, the Permanent Bureau had the pleasure of hosting the HCCH|Approach Global Event. Held online in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the HCCH 1996 Child Protection Convention, the event featured a series of lectures by global experts, culminating in a live panel discussion by a distinguished group of representatives from government, practice and academia. A wide range of issues and perspectives were spotlighted, including parental responsibility, children on the move, the Convention’s interaction with other treaty frameworks and its implementation in specific States.
During the HCCH|Approach Global Event, the Secretary General announced the winners of the HCCH|Approach Essay Competition and the HCCH|Approach Media and Design Competition. The Permanent Bureau congratulates Mr Tanner Wadsworth, Ms Mathilde Codazzi and Mr. Michael Tiu, Jr. for their outstanding essays, and Ms Shaquan Richards, Mr Freddy Rodriguez and Ms Fatima Perez for their inspiring creations.
The event and competitions form part of the inaugural edition of the Advancing and Promoting the Protection of All Children (Approach) Initiative. The HCCH|Approach Initiative opened on 28 September with the online event “Twenty-Five Years of the HCCH 1996 Child Protection Convention in the Asia and Pacific Region: Present, Development and Future”, hosted by the HCCH Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, and will end on 28 October with an online event for Central Authorities of the 1996 Child Protection Convention from the region, hosted by the HCCH Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean.
