Communications and Outreach Internship

Applications are now open for a Communications and Outreach Internship at the Permanent Bureau of the HCCH in The Hague, Netherlands. Applications will be accepted until Monday 20 May 2024, 18.00 hours (CEST).

Prospective applicants should complete the online application form and submit the following supporting documentation

  1. letter of motivation (two pages maximum)
  2. curriculum vitae (CV)
  3. transcript of academic records
  4. a writing sample (e.g., academic paper, etc.) or sample of outreach / communications products (e.g., social media carousel deck, video, brochure, etc.) including usernames of relevant social media accounts (if providing usernames, please ensure that the account is viewable by the public)
  5. at least one letter of recommendation

Purpose
The Permanent Bureau of the HCCH seeks a full-time Communications and Outreach Intern to assist HCCH staff members in the discharge of their duties and in their day-to-day work. The internship is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates who wish to gain practical experience in the communications, outreach and design work of an international intergovernmental organisation.

Duration of the Internship
For six months for five days per week, with a flexible starting date. Minor adjustments to the proposed duration of the internship may also be considered. The internship will be conducted remotely, with the possibility for the intern to work for a brief period (one to two weeks) from the Permanent Bureau’s headquarters in The Hague. In exceptional cases, in-person internships might be considered.

Language requirements
The intern should be fluent in either English, French or Spanish. Knowledge of the other two languages is an asset. Knowledge of any other languages may also be an advantage.

Duties of the Intern
The intern’s duties will include:

  • supporting the development and implementation of the Organisation’s outreach strategy and activities;
  • drafting and revising content for publication on the Organisation’s social media channels, website and other platforms;
  • contributing to the development of audio-visual materials, which may include infographics, slide decks, short videos, podcasts, etc;
  • performing other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have completed secondary education;
  • Experience in the development and publication of content for at least two of the four social media platforms employed by the Organisation (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) is required;
  • Experience with other social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, etc.) may be an asset;
  • Experience with photo and video editing is highly desirable;
  • Strong writing skills are highly desirable;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Word and PowerPoint, is required.

Remuneration
The Communications and Outreach Internship is not remunerated. Successful applicants are responsible for any travel costs and expenses for the duration of the internship.

Successful applicants are encouraged to investigate available funding within their university or from other public and private organisations (e.g., scholarships or internship placement programmes offered through their university, grants from research foundations, etc.).

Accommodation
The Permanent Bureau is not able to provide accommodation for interns, but successful applicants will be provided with a document from the Permanent Bureau with useful tips for finding accommodation in The Hague, if any portion of the internship is conducted on-site. Please note that successful applicants will be required, upon arrival, to provide an address for the purposes of registration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.

Insurance
Interns must be covered by adequate insurance for the duration of the period spent in the host State (the Netherlands) for purposes of the internship, and will be asked to provide proof of this upon arrival at the Permanent Bureau. The chosen insurance policy must, at a minimum, cover medical and hospital expenses, as well as the cost of repatriation to the country of residence.

Internship Policy and Confidentiality
Interns are bound by the HCCH Internship Policy, a copy of which will be made available to them prior to the commencement of the internship. Successful applicants will also be required to sign a confidentiality agreement and a declaration of any conflict of interest.
