Namibia has been an HCCH Connected State since 2000 and is currently a Contracting Party to the Apostille and Adoption Conventions. Namibia is the eighth African State to become a Member of the HCCH and its Membership is another important step toward universality and inclusiveness, which are central to the strategic development of the Organisation. The Convention will enter into force for Namibia on 1 January 2016. With Namibia's accession, the Hague Adoption Convention counts 96 Contracting States, 18 of them from Africa. The Intercountry Adoption Convention is the second Hague Convention joined by Namibia (a non-Member State).
