<title>2019 Judgments Convention enters into force for Montenegro</title>
<description>On 1 March 2026, the Convention of 2 July 2019 on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil or Commercial Matters&amp;nbsp;(2019 Judgments Convention) entered into force&amp;nbsp;for Montenegro following the deposit of its instrument of ratification on 21 February 2025.
At present, 33 HCCH Members are either bound by the 2019 Judgments Convention or a Contracting Party for which the Convention has not entered into force yet (Andorra). More information on this Convention is available on the Judgments Section of the HCCH website.

<title>Montenegro ratifies the 2019 Judgments Convention</title>
<description>The Permanent Bureau has been notified that, on 21 February 2025, Montenegro deposited its instrument of ratification of the Convention of 2 July 2019 on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil or Commercial Matters (2019 Judgments Convention).
With the ratification of Montenegro, 32 HCCH Members are either bound by the 2019 Judgments Convention or a Contracting Party for which the Convention has not entered into force yet (Albania, Montenegro, and the United Kingdom). <title>Choice of Court Convention enters into force for Montenegro </title>
<description>On 23 August 2018, the Permanent Bureau was informed that Montenegro had deposited its instrument of ratification to the&amp;nbsp;Hague Convention of 30 June 2005 on Choice of Court Agreements (Choice of Court Convention) on 18 April 2018. Following this ratification the Choice of Court Convention entered into force for Montenegro on 1 August 2018. With Montenegro&amp;rsquo;s ratification, the Choice of Court Convention now has 32 Contracting Parties, including one REIO.
Montenegro has been a Member of the HCCH since 2007. It is a Contracting Party to 13 Hague Conventions.

<title>Montenegro signs the 2005 Choice of Court Convention </title>
<description>On Thursday 5 October 2017, Montenegro signed the Hague Convention of 30 June 2005 on Choice of Court Agreements (Choice of Court Convention).
The Choice of Court Convention currently has 30 Contracting Parties (incl. REIOs and States bound as a result of approval by an REIO); with Montenegro&amp;rsquo;s signature, there are now an additional 4 States that have signed the Convention.

<description>On 24 December 2015, the Permanent Bureau received notification that
on 2 December 2015, Montenegro deposited its instrument of accession to 
the Hague Convention of 23 November 2007 on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance.

<title> 35 Contracting States for the 1996 Hague Protection of Children Convention</title>
<description>
On 14 February 2012, the depositary received the instrument of accession&amp;nbsp;of Montenegro to the Hague Convention of 19 October 1996 on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition, enforcement and co-operation in respect of parental responsibility and measures for the protection of children. The instrument of accession was accompanied by the designation of authorities, reservations and a declaration.
Montenegro has thus become the 35th Contracting State to the 1996&amp;nbsp;Convention, which will enter into force for Montenegro on 1 January 2013.

On 16 January 2012, the depositary of the Hague Conventions received the instruments of accession from Montenegro&amp;nbsp;to (1) the Hague Convention of 15 November 1965 on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents in Civil or Commercial Matters and (2) the Hague Convention of 18 March 1970 on the Taking of Evidence Abroad in Civil or Commercial Matters.
