The Secretary General participates in the first Petersburg International Legal Forum

From May 19-21, 2011, Secretary General Hans van Loon took part in the first International Legal Forum in St Petersburg. Invited by the Government of the Russian Federation, he spoke on May 19, at the Plenary Session, moderated by former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder (please click here to read the Secretary General's speech).

The plenary session was opened by President Dmitry Medvedev, who also commented briefly on each of the speeches. The other speakers included the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjorn Jagland, the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmström, the President of the International Bar Association, Akira Kawamura, the Chairman of the Bar Council of England and Wales, Peter Lodder, and the President of the Russian Constitutional Court, Valery Zorkin.

Mr van Loon also took part as a speaker in one of the afternoon panels.
